Buddhism came to Kerala during the period of the Lord Buddha. Karumadikuttan is one such ancient image found in Kerala. It is an image of the Lord Buddha in sitting position. It is believed to be old as far as 9th to 14th century. Karumadi village is the proud possessor of the Karumadikuttan ; it is the main mark of Buddhism in ancient Kerala. This impressive Buddhist statue represents the only Buddhist temple in Kerala.
