Buddhism came to Kerala during the period of the Lord Buddha. Karumadikuttan is one such ancient image found in Kerala. It is an image of the Lord Buddha in sitting position. It is believed to be old as far as 9th to 14th century. Karumadi village is the proud possessor of the Karumadikuttan ; it is the main mark of Buddhism in ancient Kerala. This impressive Buddhist statue represents the only Buddhist temple in Kerala. It also stands for the remarks of ancient civilization with rich religious heritage that still preserves its past glory.

Karumady is beautiful village 4 Kms east of Ambalapuzha Junction(NH47) in Alappuzha district of Kerala State in South India.
